NNEA Statement

The Abby Zwerner trial has brought renewed public attention to issues of school safety and the need for teacher and staff concerns about violence at school to be addressed. The Newport News Education Association recognizes that teachers and staff must have a formal role in shaping policies that protect our school communities, and the NNEA advocates for collective bargaining rights for all NNPS employees. Through collective bargaining, which is also known as contract negotiations, educators can work collaboratively with district leaders to address safety concerns, establish clear expectations for student behavior, and ensure consistent, fair consequences when violence occurs. The NNEA remains committed to advocating for a safe and supportive environment for every student and every employee in Newport News Public Schools.
