Big things are happening with NNEA! Have you signed your union authorization card yet?

NNPS employees, sign your authorization card in support of the NNEA negotiating for stronger contracts. Union and non-union employees can sign. If you already signed an authorization card you don’t need to sign it again.

We continue to collect authorization cards as we push for collective bargaining for certified and classified employees. Here’s what to know:

Collective bargaining will give us a voice on the job and a binding contract that makes our work more sustainable. Collective bargaining / contract negotiations is when a formal union of teachers and staff negotiates with the school board to agree on contracts that cover salaries, healthcare, and working conditions. To learn more about the many benefits of collective bargaining, check out our infographic here.

Here is what the NNEA is working on in order to achieve collective bargaining:

We are seeking authorization card signatures from at least 51% of certified and classified teachers and staff in support of the NNEA negotiating on behalf of NNPS employees.
We continue to advocate for the Newport News School Board to vote to allow collective bargaining for NNPS employees.

As the school year starts, we are excited to work on both of these goals! Here’s what you can do:

Sign your authorization card – and feel free to ask any questions you have! We welcome your thoughts and opinions on this process.

Come to the school board meeting on Tuesday, August 19th – wear #Red4Ed to show your support!

Tell a coworker who’s new to your school! Many teachers in Virginia don’t know about collective bargaining because it just became an option for us in 2021.
