Collective bargaining gives staff and teachers a seat at the table to negotiate for stronger contracts, including better working conditions, pay, and benefits. Employees in school districts with collective bargaining have won improved working conditions such as smaller class sizes, more planning time, more restroom breaks, reduced unnecessary testing, seniority & job security, and more. Numerous VEA locals across Virginia have won collective bargaining, from northern Virginia to the Richmond area to Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and Harrisonburg. The NNEA is poised to be the first educators union in Hampton Roads to win contract negotiations, which will help students and the community by reducing turnover of veteran teachers and staff and also by attracting more teachers and staff to NNPS amidst major shortages amongst teachers, bus drivers, and other positions.
